Railway traffic
Prague has two mainline train stations:
Praha hlavní nádrazí (the main train station)
Praha Holesovice, 2 km north
Most international trains arrive at Praha Hlavní nádrazí (Open 03:00 - 01:00) The two-level train station hall is set below the highway.
Tourist Information:
There is a tourist office in the centre of the lower level hall. Open 09:00 - 19:00, Sat, Sun 09:00 - 16:00.
Changing currency: There are numerous currency exchanges in the train station but rates are not the best; just change that essential minimum. There is an ATM inside the train information office on the far left side of the lower level hall when coming from the tracks.
To call home, buy a phone card at the Tabák (news stand).
Getting to town:
you are pretty much in the centre of town. There are taxi ranks on either side of the upper hall. However, it is much cheaper to take the metro. The Hlavní nádrazí metro station is just below the main hall, from where it is one stop to the Muzeum metro stop in the centre of town. For those who want to walk, turn left after leaving the main hall and go straight along Washingtonova until you reach the top of Wenceslas Square (Václavské námestí). |
